    Hi Chris,

Your post popped up on my daily google news reader. It’s a video done in the late 1990s by the US Geothermal Heat Pump Consortium, owner of the trademark ‘GeoExchange(tm)’ as well as the double arrow and slogans like “Comfort from the ground up.” The Canadian GeoExchange Coalition, Canada’s national association for GSHP technology, manages the trademark in Canada and has successfully defended the trademark in court.

GeoexchangeBC, while it has no formal ownership of nor management responsibilities for the trademark, is allowed to use the trademark (i.e. the phrase ‘GeoExchange’) by the Canadian GeoExchange Coalition (CGC) without interference at this time. Essentially, this bit of corporatese means that as long as folks are acting for the industry good and not damaging CGC or the industry’s interest, CGC abets the free and responsible use of the word. CGC Members in good standing (33 members in BC, about 300 nationally) have a default right to use the word.

    VP, Canadian GeoExchange Coalition

Much appreciated Ted. I’ll edit the post to reflect the author.
