Geothermal Heat Pumps are smaller than a typical heating and cooling system and so they will take up less space in your home and that can leave you more room.

Cig, I was away for a few days, so delayed response. Google "geothermal forums" and you'll likely get the answers to your questions. But it is not like buying a fridge. The heat pump brand is definitely secondary to your confidence in the designer/installer as this is not an "off the shelf" type installation.

So true. As a geothermal company owner myself you really do need to watch who you get your advice from. It can be really scary when you get someone at your door and they smell of alcohol or they show up with just a hand shovel and say "I'm here to put in your geothermal system". Craziness!!!

My spouse wants to have a geothermal unit installed in our 100+ year old farm house. I do not know anyone who has one of these units and can't find any consumer reviews. The only information comes from the sellers, contractors and electric companies/co-ops. For a 30+K investment I would like to know what actual consumers are saying about this product.

Hi Chris,

Your post popped up on my daily google news reader. It's a video done in the late 1990s by the US Geothermal Heat Pump Consortium, owner of the trademark 'GeoExchange(tm)' as well as the double arrow and slogans like "Comfort from the ground up." The Canadian GeoExchange Coalition, Canada's national association for GSHP technology, manages the trademark in Canada and has successfully defended the trademark in court.

GeoexchangeBC, while it has no formal ownership of nor management responsibilities for the trademark, is allowed to use the trademark (i.e. the phrase ‘GeoExchange’) by the Canadian GeoExchange Coalition (CGC) without interference at this time. Essentially, this bit of corporatese means that as long as folks are acting for the industry good and not damaging CGC or the industry's interest, CGC abets the free and responsible use of the word. CGC Members in good standing (33 members in BC, about 300 nationally) have a default right to use the word.
